autodidacticism : the science of self learning

I was reading about ' Alan Watts', the Zen Guru, an expatriate Britt, the flower child and visited Wikipedia.
Where did you learn about Alan Watts ? I opened 'eckhart tolle quotes' and clicked on satsang and found a quote by a learned man . Clicked on his name. Don't remember his name. He wrote a book on advaitha.
He thanked Alan Watts the zen guru . Visited amazon. Lot of books. visited wiki and typed his name. He was described as ' autodidactic', the self learned. clicked on the hyper link. Here is the wiki link on auto didacticism.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autodidact

Wiki also cited 2 web sites dedicacted to autodidactism. Here they are : the first one, with this foreword :

Autodidactic Press is dedicated to two propositions:

That lifelong learning is fundamental to living a full and interesting life.

That the learning necessary to gain competence in a job or career is far, far more important than how or where it is acquired.

You will find lots of material on this site in support of these objectives.

http://www.autodidactic.com/

Second website dedicated to autodidacticism, has the following foreword on its home page :

Are you an autodidact, a self-educated person?
Did you learn most of what matters to you on your own, even if you went to college?
Are you a disgruntled student, teacher, or professor, dissatisfied with the knowledge industry and the bureaucratization of intellect?
Are you concerned about the role of the intellect not just as a form of specialized professionalism but as equipment for living?
Are you interested in the intellectual life of society as a whole, in its informal and extra-institutional aspects as much as in its formal institutions?
Do you strive to make yourself and people around you more conscious and critical thinkers?
How do you locate yourself in the universe of knowledge?
If any of these questions strike a chord in you, you too may wish to benefit from the Autodidact Project.
"Nature has no outline but imagination has."— William Blake
