Jeeva & Jagat

Again falling back on Sri Ramana Maharshi’s sayings:

Once we are convinced of the ego (I-thought), in the sense that it is a temporary existence & that it does not exist at all times, whereas, the real “I” does not cease to exist even in sleep (as we recall upon waking), now by inference (anumAna praMana), one should investigate and enquire the source into which the I-thought sets and from which it rises. This forms an important clue to track this I-thought to its end, by persistently questioning “who am I?” , eventually merging it to the source (pure  CONSCIOUSNESS). Sri Ramana termed this as Direct path.

On the other hand, any effort by the ego-mind to enquire and discuss the nature of Jeeva, Jagat and Iswara and to find THE answers will be futile, because, in all these efforts, it is the ego ridden intellect which is spearheading the thoughts & discussions. AND the ego cannot kill itself. With the ego remaining in its glory, real spiritual progress is impossible.

During hard and hot discussions on these topics (Jeeva, Jagat and Iswara) among His devotees, more often than not, Sri Ramana would interfere to discourage the discussion to go on endlessly and would say “ Let the Jagat be; let the Iswara be; why bother about them?. Do you know ‘who you are?’; let us first settle that question. Then we shall see if we really need answers pertaining to Jagat and Iswara”

This way, he would prompt to carry out the SELF enquiry / investigation with the RamaNastra  “who am I’ and this would assuredly help to establish oneself in   SELF knowledge.
